Dislocation of Intimacy is a net-based installation by Ken Goldberg and Bob Farzin that explores the delicate relationship between the immediate and the mediated. The installation includes a sealed black steel box in our studio that is accessible via the Internet. ``the user selects from among five lights, clicks the button, and receives a surrealist and mysterious shadow, which arrives at the user's screen in gray-scale and without content.'' Currently, the system is off-line. However, we have preserved the user interface and have archived the last images from the box. To view the simulated box interior, users may select combinations of five buttons. Each combination produces different simulated lighting conditions, resulting in unique shadows.
